Mangalore, Jun 9: The sports secretariat has finally given permission to start a sports training centre of international standards and a sports hostel in the city.
This was announced by KPCC secretary and district sports association president Manjunath Bhandary in a press conference held at the press club here on Friday June 9.
He said that the much awaited permission was secured after the Sport Authority of India recommended for the need of a spacious and sophisticated sports training centre in the city.
He further said that the district administration should now allot at least 15-20 acres of land to establish the centre. The centre and a hostel with a capacity for 100 persons to stay will be built at a total cost of Rs 20 crore. "So too the basketball, volleyball and badminton courts in the Mangala stadium too will be upgraded to the international standards.
Vijay Kumar Rai and Taranath Shetty of district sports association, former mayor Purandaradas Kulur, youth Congress president Bondala Jagannath Shetty and corporator Naveen D'Souza were also present at the press conference.
