In response to the city corporation's decision to hand over the playground at Shantinagar to MESCOM, the residents of Jeppinamoguru here have decided to stage a unique protest by holding a cricket match in the centre of the road on Monday June 12.

The match has been organised by the Shantinagar Kreedangana Ulisi Horata Samiti. Addressing press persons here on Friday June 9, Samiti president Lakshman G More said that the stadium has a history of 100 years but now it has been unceremoniously been given MESCOM without a thought to the sports lovers who have been frequenting the playground.

MESCOM has already dug 14 pits in the middle of the ground. Around 46 cricket teams in and around the city have expressed their support to the cause, More informed.

Office-bearers Ivan D' Souza, Suresh Shetty and P V Mohan were present at the press meet.
