The general body meeting of the National Rural Health Mission was held here under the chairmanship of district in-charge minister B Nagraj Shetty here on Friday June 9.

Shetty said that there was lack of coordination between health and child welfare departments and this would affect implementation of government schemes. He also disclosed that the government would deposit Rs 10,000 in the account of every auxiliary nursing midwife in the district for use of various purposes related to women and child health monitoring.

A nine-member team headed by zilla panchayat president has been set up to monitor the effective implementation of health mission schemes in rural areas, he said. The rural health mission will also implement Janani Suraksha Yojana wherein expectant mothers below poverty line will be provided nutrition and pre-natal care and Rs 7 lac has been set aside for this purpose.

An award carrying a cash prize of Rs 5000 has also been instituted by the mission for the outstanding auxiliary nursing midwife, Shetty informed.
