Philippines to host ASEAN Economic Community Forum

Manila, April 1 (IANS): The Philippines will host the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Forum April 10 to coordinate regional efforts for development, the trade department said Tuesday.

The forum will launch a series of roundtables to discuss opportunities and advantages presented by the AEC and the overall implementation of the regional community, Xinhua reported.

The forum will mobilise support, integrate and harmonise public-private efforts towards taking full advantage of opportunities under the AEC.

The AEC is the logical progression of ASEAN's economic integration initiated in the early 1990s that include the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), ASEAN industrial Cooperation Scheme (AICO), ASEAN Framework Agreement on Services ( AFAS) and ASEAN Investments Area (AIA).
