Doha, Apr 1: The inauguration of the newly-renovated Hall in the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) premises which was named Bengaluru Hall was held recently. The Bengaluru Hall was jointly inaugurated by ICC president Tarun Basu and Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association (KMCA) president Niyaz Ahmed.
ICC already has 5 other halls, named after prominent Indian cities Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Cochin along with the large Ashoka Hall. So Bengaluru Hall which has been named after the capital city of Karnataka will be the 6th hall in the ICC premises. While Ashoka hall is the largest among the others within the ICC premises, newly-inaugurated Bengaluru hall now becomes the Joint second largest hall along with Mumbai Hall.
Addressing the gathering ICC president Tarun Basu praised the efforts put in by KMCA under the energetic leadership of Niyaz Ahmed. He also requested other ICC-affiliated Associations to come forward to support ICC in the coming days. A plaque of appreciation was given to KMCA recognising its valuable contribution towards the renovation of the hall. Speaking on the occasion KMCA president Niyaz Ahmed, thanked ICC for giving them the opportunity and assured complete support to ICC even in the coming days.
ICC general secretary Shinu Pillai, advisory panel chairman K M Varghese and management committee members, KMCA vice-president Saquib Raza Khan, general secretary Ibraiz Khan, former president and advisor Ahmed Saad Assadi, Irfan Shariff adn Fayaz Khan were also present on the occasion.
Speaking to Daijiworld Deepak Shetty, president of Karnataka Sangha Qatar, expressed his happiness and thanked ICC Management for accepting KSQ’s (the official body of Kannadigas living in Qatar), long –standing demand of naming one of the Halls, after capital of Karnataka , Bengaluru. It is KSQ which had made this request first time 3 years ago with the previous management. The present ICC management led by Tarun Basu agreed to their proposal after official request was again submitted to ICC on September 19, 2013. Deepak Shetty congratulated KMCA for completing the task, which has made all Kannadigas proud.
