Mangalore, Jun 12: The Dakshina Kannada Parisarasaktha Okkoota opposing the Tadari thermal power project proposed to be set up in Uttara Kannada has urged the Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to shelve the coal-based power plant project.

In a press release issued by Mohammad Guthigar, secretary of the okkoota, he has stated that the government has shown that it is keen on going ahead with the project. However, he urged the CM to consider the reports placed by the two committees formed to study the project and its impact on the fragile ecosystem of the region.

The damage caused by industries has been immense and hence a coal-based thermal plant would augment this effect, the release said.

The report on Cogentrix by National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) of Nagpur had stated that a coal-based project would have adverse affect on the environment.

He further extended support to the campaign against the coal-based plant at Tadadi and also condemned the arrest of Jana Jagruti Samiti Nandikur honorary president Balakrishna Shetty.
