Mid-Day

Mumbai, Jun 12: Aasik Ali, who raped his 14-year-old daughter repeatedly for two years, brainwashed her to lodge a complaint against 90 other men for the crime, including relatives and friends

Shazia Shaikh (name changed), 14, who alleged that 90 men raped her over a period of two years has revoked her earlier statements.

Currently staying at the Madanpura children’s home, she said that it was her father, Aasik Ali, who raped her repeatedly and not the 90 men that included her relatives and friends.

The RCF police arrested Aasik on June 9.

Says Police inspector Chandrakant Kate, RCF police, “Aasik, who raped his own daughter, pressurised her to accuse their relatives. He thought he could extort money from them in this manner.”

The cops, who think Aasik suffers from a psychological problem, are also weighing the possibility of drug and alcohol abuse.

After gaining confidence of the girl, who had been brainwashed to lie by her father, the police got the girl to reveal that her father had actually raped her repeatedly. They in turn made alterations to the FIR.

They have released her uncles Abdul Aziz Khan (35), Nasrullah Vakeel Shaikh (38) and Badrullah Vakeel Shaikh (35), and cousin Md. Hafeez Shaikh (16).

The cops had filed an FIR against 17 people after medical reports of the girl confirmed that she had been raped repeatedly.

Aasik Ali, a resident of Bharat Nagar, Chembur, was also arrested in 1996 for molesting a minor. After his release, he settled in his native place for a few years, but returned to Mumbai.
