San Salvador, April 3 (IANS/EFE): A convict serving time at Metapan prison murdered his girlfriend during a conjugal visit, the Salvadoran Attorney General's Office said Wednesday.
Authorities launched an investigation to determine the motive for the killing, the office's spokesperson said.
Dora Elizabeth Mendoza was found dead at 6.05 a.m. Wednesday in Cubicle 1 of the conjugal visits area at the Metapan facility, the prisons service said in a note on Twitter.
Mendoza, 40, "was the life companion of inmate Walter Oswaldo Martinez Retana, a former police officers sentenced to 10 years" for offences including rape, fraud and human trafficking, the prisons service said.
Martinez Retana entered Metapan prison in August 2012.
