Mumbai, April 3 (PTI): A young woman from Britain, who was to board a flight to London, went "missing" from the international airport, leading the police to launch a frantic search for her.
However, it was later found that the 21-year-old had not boarded the fight and she was very much in Mumbai and was safe, police said today.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Madhukar Sankhe, the foreigner was supposed to take a flight on Monday evening and reach London the next day.
Not finding her at the airport there, her panicked parents contacted British Consulate, which informed the city police this morning that she had gone "missing", he said.
While police were looking into the matter, a phone call was received from the Consulate this afternoon stating that she has been found in Mumbai and was safe, the ACP added.
"Since we were told she is safe and no formal complaint was registered, we did not take the matter further. There was no need for us to make any inquiry or call her for questioning," Sankhe said.
According to police, the UK national had come to Mumbai from Goa early morning on Monday. It was not clear why she did not board the flight to London.
Police said the woman's parents had created her profile on a social networking site and sought people's help to trace her. Many netizens had sought more details from them to help locate her.
However, the parents heaved a sigh of relief when they came to know the whereabouts of their daughter.
