Bangalore, Jun 12:
Get ready to pay higher bus fares. Following the fuel price hike, KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC and NEKRTC have revised their fares by 8 per cent effective Saturday midnight.

According to an official release, KSRTC requires diesel worth Rs 15.46 crore to ply 5,100 buses over 77.28 crore km. However, due to the recent hike in the diesel price, the fuel cost would be an additional Rs 69.26 crore annually.

For the BMTC, the revision of fares has been necessitated by an additional cost of Rs 62.15 crore that it will incur annually.

"This cost also includes Rs 5.04 crore expenditure incurred towards dearness allowance after it was revised by 7%,as announced by the government in two instalments -- July 2005 and this January," said BMTC chief traffic manager Dastagir Sharieff.
