New Delhi, April 8 (IANS): Delhi Metro Tuesday shut three of its stations for several hours due to a religious gathering on a disputed plot of land.

The Race Course station in south Delhi was closed after 1.35 p.m., as advised by Delhi Police. The nearby Jor Bagh and INA stations, also on the Yellow Line connecting Huda City Centre in Gurgaon to Jahangirpuri in north Delhi, which were closed at 10.17 a.m., continued to remain shut.

"Around 300 protestors were detained at Ghazipur area while entering Delhi around 3 p.m. They were taken to the office of the deputy commissioner of police (east) in buses," said a police officer.

All three stations were reopened at 4.55 p.m., said the officer.

The metro stations were also shut March 31 for fear of vandalism after crowds gathered at the disputed site in the vicinity of Delhi's two historic sites - Lodhi Garden and Safdarjang Tomb.

Delhi Police had Monday issued an advisory on a possibility of some Muslim protestors staging demonstrations at several places against the acquisition of the Karbala land in Jor Bagh area.
