New Delhi, Jun 14: Sanaa Bhambri crashed out of the USD 10,000 ITF women's tennis event with a shock first round loss to rank outsider Wei-Ping Lee of Singapore at the DLTA Complex here on Tuesday.

Local lass Sanaa, seeded fourth, faded out after competing in the first two sets 6-4 6-7 (4) 6-1 to Lee, ranked nearly 500 places below her.

Veteran Rushmi Chakravarthi avoided a similar fate as she came through what turned out to be a potential banana skin of a clash against qualifier Poojashree Venkatesh.

It was an indication of changing times that Rushmi, the third seed, was forced to fight tooth and nail by Poojashree before winning 6-0 1-6 6-2.

There were no such problems for the top two seeds Ankita Bhambri and Isha Lakhani.

Ankita breezed past Krushmi Chheda 6-0 6-1 while Isha was equally convincing in her 6-3 6-1 victory against Lavinia Tananta of Indonesia.

Other results (Indian unless specified): Singles, 1st round: Megha Vakharia bt Geeta Manohar 6-4 6-1; Po-Kuen Lam (Hkg) bt Vivien Silfany-Tony (Ina) 4-6 6-4 6-2; Sandy Gumulya bt Neha Rana 6-0 6-1; Chun-Mei Ji (Chn) bt Jing Ren (Chn) 7-6 (4) 6-1.
