Udupi, Apr 9: The theme this year for the world health day, is vector-borne diseases – 'small bite, big threat'.
A pair from manipal Sand Heart- Srinath Manipal and Ravi Hirebettu made a sand sculpture to create awareness among the people about vector borne diseases with the support of Radha medicals, Udupi at the kaup beach on April 7, World Health Day.
The message ‘Mosquito bites health flights’ was displayed across the sculpture.
Vector-borne illnesses are spread by blood-sucking arthropods, such as mosquitoes, sand flies and ticks. These small 'vectors' carry infectious microbes which can be transmitted by a single bite. Some of the more common global vector-borne diseases include malaria, dengue, leishmaniasis, yellow fever and Japanese encephalitis, although there are many more. Vector-borne diseases can be transmitted to animals as well as to people.
