Mangalore, Jun 14: The Canara Organization for Development and Peace (CODP) and horticulture department of government of Karnataka jointly organized a function of Horticulture training and free sapling distribution at Ferar Church Hall on Sunday June 11.
Fr Onil D’Souza, director,.CODP who was the chief guest of the function said that trees are like hen which lays golden eggs because of its utility in every field. He also said that the society will have to pay a huge price it continues cutting down the trees at such a rapid pace.
B Nagraj Shetty, district in-charge minister inaugurated the function. Fr Maxim Noronha, parish priest of Ferar church presided over the function. Gokuldas Shetty, president of taluk panchayat, ZP members Krishna Amin and Lata G Rai, Dominic Mendonca, president, Jalakoota, Muduferar, Sadashiv Rao, seniro assistant of department of horticulture were also present on the occasion.
Sadashiv Rao conducted the Horticulture training programme. A total of 2,000 cashew, sapota saplings and Ginger seeds were distributed free of cost to the farmers.
Minister B Nagraj Shetty commended the exemplary work of CODP and called upon everyone to draw the benefits all programmes of CODP irrespective of cast and creed and lead a dignified life.
