Mangalore, Jun 15: In a demolition drive Mangalore City Corporation cleared the roadsides of the petty shots on Wednesday at State Bank bus stop. Tight police security was arranged to undertake the demolition drive smoothly.

According to the instruction of the Mangalore City Corporation commissioner, the illegal petty shops were evicted forcefully. The JCBs cleared the vegetable shops and fruit stalls on the road.

 

The footpath adjacent to the fish market was also cleared.

The drive which began at 8.30 am continued till 10 am, until mayor K Ashraf instructed to stop the demolition drive.

While the vendors protested against the drive the petty shops and other furniture used for trading were taken away in the MCC lorries.

Following this episode both the mayor and the commissioner were found to be with locked horns. The Mayor speaking to the press said that it is wrong on the part of the city corporation to evict the vendors unless they are given another place to conduct trading.

He also condemned the manner in which the evicting was being carried out. Over 50 shops were demolished in the drive.
