Mangalore, Jun 16: A help centre of the Income Tax department was opened at Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Thursday June 15.
Speaking after inaugurating the centre, Ananthakrishna, chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Karnataka Bank, said that though the tax slab had been slashed from 97.5 per cent in 1960's to 35 per cent presently, many people continue to evade tax.
The help centre, set up for taxpayers especially of the salaried class, would be open from 2 pm to 6 pm on all working days.
Among those present were Pradeep Arya, assistant commissioner, Income Tax, Mangalore; A Srinivas Rao, president, KCCI; Y L Srinivas Bhat, assistant commissioner, Income Tax and Praveen Kumar Shetty, president, Mangalore chapter of Chartered Accountants of India.
