Gunmen seized police station in Ukraine

London, April 12 (IANS): A police station in eastern Ukraine was seized Saturday by armed men dressed in camouflage clothing, official said.

The police has said that the group fired shots and used stun grenades to capture the buildings in the city of Sloviansk, in eastern Ukraine near the Russian border, BBC reported.

Ukraine's Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that special forces have been deployed to take action against the attackers.

Earlier this month, pro-Russian protesters took over government buildings throughout eastern Ukraine.

After seizing government buildings in Ukraine's eastern city of Donetsk, the protesters proclaimed the region's independence from Kiev last week.

Russia has refused to take responsibility for the protests in eastern Ukraine.
