EC relaxes model code in Haryana after polls

Chandigarh, April 12 (IANS): The Election Commission has relaxed the model code of conduct in Haryana after polling has been completed in all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state, a senior election official said here Saturday.

The relaxation is to undertake certain activities.

"The Election Commission has decided to allow various activities in the states and UTs, including Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh, where polling has been completed, except in such districts where repoll, if any, is pending," Haryana chief electoral officer (CEO) Shrikant Walgad said here.

Polling for all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, one seat in Chandigarh and seven seats in Delhi was completed April 10.

The activities allowed under the relaxed model code of conduct include tours of ministers to districts, accompaniment of officers on such tours, review and implementation of the ongoing programmes in the field and review with field officers, except for officers who are on election duty, as per a communication from the EC.

"Similarly, calling a review meeting of officers at the headquarters, except for officers who are on election duty, and tour of ministers outside the state or country are among the other activities which have been allowed by the ECI," Walgad added.
