BJP's Babul Supriyo alleges assault by Trinamool activists

Kolkata, April 12 (IANS): Bollywood singer and BJP candidate from West Bengal's Asansol constituency Babul Supriyo Saturday filed a police complaint alleging he was heckled and his bodyguard assaulted by Trinamool Congress activists during campaigning.

Supriyo named Trinamool Raniganj block president Senapati Mandal and his son among other Trinamool activists in his complaint about the assault during his roadshow at Raniganj city in Burdwan district.

"They not only manhandled and abused me but also assaulted several of my team members including my bodyguard. I have named Mandal and his son among others in the complaint," said Supriyo, who also alleged police inaction despite being present at the site.

Mandal has rubbished Supriyo's claims and accused him of trying to create trouble during the roadshow.

The BJP has also filed a complaint with the Election Commission in this regard.

Earlier, a case was filed against the singer for hurting religious sentiments by entering a temple in an allegedly drunken state.

Supriyo has been contemplating filing a defamation suit against the petitioners claiming the case against him was false as he was a teetotaller.
