Dharwad, Apr 14: In an inhuman incident, a lady was beaten up with wooden sticks and iron bars by her husband, mother-in-law, and her husband’s brother, for her failure to bring additional dowry from her parents. She was then taken in a jeep to near her parental home, where she was dumped by the roadside. Her parents live in Nekarnagar here.

The lady in question, identified as Kalpana Pawar (20), wife of Manju Pawar from Koppa village in Mundagod taluk of Uttara Kannada district, was found in badly injured and bruised state by some locals. She was found lying near Nekarnagar Bypass. They took her to her parental home, whereupon her father, Ramachandra Solanki, admitted her into Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences hospital here.

After information was conveyed to Mundgod police station, personnel from there came to the town to get written statement from Kalpana. A case of dowry harassment was registered against the husband of Kalpana, Manju Pawar, his mother, Rakkubai, and Manju’s brother, Suresh.

It is gathered that Kalpana was married two years back. Although dowry was given during the marriage, her husband, supported by members of his family, pestered her for more dowry in the form of two tolas of gold and two lac rupees in cash. Following the repeated demand for additional dowry, Kalpana’s parents had held talks with her in-laws in the presence of some mediators recently, and had given a tola of gold additionally to satisfy them, it is learnt.
