Mangalore, Apr 14: “It has been a year and one month since the MCC elections and state elections and the Congress is the ruling party. They had mentioned many things in their manifesto and all these remain only in the manifesto. They have made fake promises to the people," said former city Mayor Shankar Bhat at a press meet organized by the BJP on Sunday April 13, at the local BJP election office.
The press conference began with a direct question to the Congress with Bhat enquiring as to what development they had brought about in the last one year in the city and in other places.

<P align=left> <BR>Taking a dig at the fake promises made by the Congress, he said, "Water tax has been increased by 10 to 16 percent but still the supply of water is irregular. During our rule, the construction of Thumbe vented dam was started and after the Congress party came to power, the construction work has been stopped completely.”<BR> <BR>“Roads are yet to be fixed by the Congress. BJP has completed many projects like building good roads in areas within the city and also Kavoor and many more places. The BJP had purchased land in Pumpwell to build a bigger bus stand and after Congress rule started, this project is still pending and no one is bothered about it,” he added.<BR> <BR>Bhat, through media persons, put a question to current Mayor Mahabala Maarla as to how he seems to have got the power to transfer engineers, contractors, and other officials but no power to develop the city.<BR> <BR>In addition to that, Bhat said that the Congress, in 25 years, has done work worth Rs 480 crore while the BJP in five years has implemented projects worth Rs 500 crore.<BR> <BR>“Congress is giving only assurances, but they are not doing any work and I have full confidence that Nalin Kumar Kateel is going to the Lok Sabha yet again,” he stated.<BR> <BR>Sulochana Bhat, Shambu Sharma, Premananda Shetty, Praveen Anchan, and Jayanthi were also present at the press meet.</P></span>
