Mangalore, Jun 17: A pirated CD unit operating from former corporator of Bajilakeri Chandrakant Nayak's house at Bajilakeri was raided by sleuths of Piracy Cell and Bunder police on Friday June 16.
The police also raided a video CDC parlour, Guru Darshan, owned by Chandrakant at Car Street and seized blue film CDs and pirated CDs. The police have recovered two computers, CD writers and more than 4,000 CDs in the raid. The total value of the seized goods is estimated to be Rs 5.75 lac.
Chandrakant was running the pirated CD unit for some time now. He used to supply blue film and other pirated CDs to various video CD parlours in the city. Ever since the Piracy Cell came to know about this racket, they were keeping an eye on Chandrakant's shop. Once they got substantial clues about the unit at Chandrakant's house, they carried out the raid with the help of Bunder police led by inspector Vinay Gaonkar.
However, Chandrakant managed to escape from the police as he was not in his house when the raid was carried out.
