Eight die as truck runs over marriage party in Jharkhand


Ranchi, April 19 (IANS): Eight people of a marriage party died after they were crushed by a truck in Jharkhand's coal city Dhanbad, police said Saturday.

According to police, the marriage of Anup Singh, a resident of Jamshedpur, was to take place Friday night in Dhanbad district.

The marriage party members were staying at a hotel.

The people attending marriage were going to bridgegroom's house by dancing and singing on the roadside near Mugama locality when a truck ran over 11 people.

Five people died on the spot and three in hospital.

The condition of three is said to be serious.

The truck, after crushing them, drove on for around 500 meters.

The truck driver managed to escape.
