Karkala, Jun 20: Sunday night’s rain accompanied by lightning and thunder was harsh on the house of a poor labourer here. The lightning struck the house of Appu Naik at Neelakattee in Nadpal panchayat jurisdiction.
The impact created a huge crater inside the house.
Both Appu Naik and his wife Nagaratna were unconscious due to the shock and sustained injuries. Children of the couple have escaped unhurt. The loss has been estimated to Rs 15,000.
Locals said that the electricity system in the house had been affected as a portion of the wall had collapsed in the rain.
The injured have been admitted to a hospital.
