New Delhi: National Kannada Sammelana unites Kannadigas

New Delhi, Apr 21: The 31st national conference of the Kannada speaking people was successfully held in Delhi on April 5 and April 6.

The conference included a seminar on Kannada language, literature and culture and poets meet, women festival, music, dance, drama and cultural programmes and books exhibition.

Delegates from all over the country including writers, artist, professors, academicians and representatives of Kannada associations, participated.

Inaugurating the conference organised by Dehali Kannadiga, a Kannada monthly published from Delhi, Dr Meena Chandavarkar, vice chancellor Karnataka State Womens University called upon Kannadigas to develop a Kannada language, literature and culture and convert Karnataka as a model state in the country.

"We must also translate prominent Kannada literary works to other languages to reach Kannada to a global level," she added.

M B Samaga convener of the conference said, the main purpose of this conference is to seek more recognition to Kannada culture at the national and international level and to provide justice to Kannadigas in every field. For this purpose the Central government should immediately clear all pending projects of Karnataka.

Releasing the Dehali Kannadiga Sammelana special issue Nadoja Dr Mahesh Joshi, additional director general of Delhi doordarshan appreciated the monthly.

Presiding over the conference Dr S Ayyappan well known agricultural scientist called upon people to develop linguistic, social harmony and national integration and to provide more prominence to agriculture and develop Kannada culture all over the world.

In the conference, P Jayaram Bhat, managing director of Karnataka Bank, Dr K Narayana Gowda, vice chancellor, Agricultural University Bangalore; Rawal A P Somayaji, former chief priest Pashupati Temple, Katmandu, Dr V R Gudde Gowda, officer on special duty, Coffee board, Dr Arathi Krishna of America recieved 'Best Banker', 'Best Social Worker', 'Best Social Worker', Best outside Kannadiga', 'Best Delhi Kannadiga', 'Best outside Kannadati' awards respectively.

Dr Meena Chandavarkar, M B Samaga, Dr Guddegowda, Dr Narayana Gowda Dr Arati Krishana, P Jayaram Bhat, professor R Govinda, Rawal A  P Somyaji were present during the inaugural of the conference.
