Gas pipeline blown up in Pakistan

Islamabad, April 23 (IANS): Suspected militants blew up a gas pipeline in Pakistan's Balochistan province Wednesday, an official said.

Militants planted an improvised explosive device (IED) close to a gas pipeline in the Pir Koh area of Dera Bugti district Wednesday, Dawn online reported citing a security official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

He said the IED exploded with a considerably loud blast, blowing up 16-inch diameter gas pipeline in the area.

"Gas supply to Sui purification plant has been suspended after the blast," the official was quoted as saying.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. However, the official suspected the Baloch insurgents operating in the area to be behind the incident.
