LG puts Delhi civic officials on toes

New Delhi, April 23 (IANS): Continuing with his proactive approach to governance, Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Wednesday directed the city's civic bodies to "gear up" for the summer season and ensure "proper delivery of services" and cleanliness of neighbourhoods, slums and schools.

In a review meeting held at the Delhi Secretariat, Jung met the heads of the government departments, municipal corporations and other local authorities and asked them to "visit the field" and send an "action taken report" to him every week.

"The most critical issues for the summer are adequate supply of water, uninterrupted supply of power, and municipal functions being robust. There must be proper delivery of services to the people," Jung said.

"Ensure that responsibility is fixed for non-delivery," he added.

The Lt. Governor instructed the power and water departments to set up control rooms during the summer which shall respond promptly to queries and complaints and at the same time, disseminate information swiftly.

Stressing the need to ensure "cleanliness" and "proper toilet facilities" in slums and resettlement colonies, Jung said, "Every resident of the city must be extended this basic facility by the municipality".

He told the municipalities to launch a cleanliness drive which he would review after 10 days.
