Udupi, Jun 21: The All-Karnataka Bhovi Action Committee has urged the state government to set up a high-level committee to investigate the death of Shobha, a quarry worker at Pambur here and deal with the menace of bonded labour.
Speaking at a press conference here, R Sheshanna Kumar, president, All -Karnataka Bhovi Action Committee, alleged that the 'inhuman' treatment of the quarry owner was the cause of Shobha's suicide on Wednesday June 7.
The committee plans to stage a protest against the government in front of the Gandhi statue in Bangalore.
On Tuesday June 20, Sri Revanna Siddeshwara Swami, the seer of Bhovi Gurupeeta, visited the site of the suicide along with Kumar.
Meanwhile, in another press conference, the office-bearers of the Shirva-Belle Quarry Owners' Association denied the charges and said that Shobha had ended her life as she was suffering from a stomach ailment and had strained relationship with her husband.
