Mangalore, Jun 21: India, for the first time, will participate in 'Exponut 2006' an international trade fair for nuts, dried fruits, products and technologies to be held at Istanbul, Turkey, from Thursday June 22 to Saturday June 24.
A press release stated that a five-member Indian delegation under the leadership of Walter D'Souza, chairman, Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPCI) will participate in the event.
The release said that the Exponut trade fair has earlier attracted over 3000 importers and exporters from 45 countries. This year, over 5000 people from 60 countries are expected to participate. This is the largest international event in west Asia.
India has been specially invited by the organisers, said the release. The invitation is in the light of the growing exports from India to Turkey at a rate of 70 per cent per annum during the last two years. Turkey is also among the 57 countries identified by the central government in the list of 'focus market' countries.
During their stay in Istanbul, the CEPCI will organize an exclusive conclave of the existing and prospective importers of cashew in Turkey in a bid to increase exports to that country. Walter D'Souza will make a presentation on Indian cashews on the occasion.
The CEPCI will hold the first ever Global Buyer Seller meet in Kovalam, Trivandrum, in September this year and invitation for the same will be extended to Turkey importers during Exponut, said the release.
