Bhatkal, Apr 26: A dead body was found at Manki Anathwadi about 30 kilometers from Bhatkal.
The body was found in the jungle near the railway tracks. There are marks of being beaten on the front and back parts of the body.

Suspected murder
The body was identified as Shirider Naik (40). A daily wage labourer, Shirider on Wednesday April 23 morning went for his work but did not return. His body was found on Thursday April 24 morning in a jungle at Manki.

Locals said that there was an extra pair of footwear near the dead body. A towel and a big sign board were also found. It is suspected that first Shirider was taken to the liquor shop and was killed in the shop itself. Later his body was thrown in the jungle with the help of a sign board.
On Wednesday night, when few people were taking his body to the jungle, the locals noticed them from a distance focused the torch light on them; at this instant they threw the body and started running.

Soon after informing the Manki police, they rushed to the spot and the body was taken to the Manki government hospital for the postmortem.

When the news spread, hundreds of locals rushed to the police station and said that the sign board was always seen near the wine shop; they appealed to the police to arrest the shop owner, but the police denied it. At this the locals began shouting but they did not get any answer from the police. The locals denied taking his body after the postmortem.

The Honavar CPI Manjunath Gawda was informed about the incident and he visited the Manki government hospital and assured the people that the main accused would surely be arrested, but they needed some time. He told the people that just because they had doubt on any person, the police cannot arrest them.

He also said that to arrest someone they need proof. The locals said that the wine shop owner would give liquor to the police every month; hence they were not arresting the owner.

Speaking to the media, Honavar CPI said, “We will find the main accused as soon as possible and we cannot arrest anyone on the basis of doubt.”

Till the case was registered, the body was at the Manki government hospital.

Bhatkal CPI Belliyapp also visited the spot.
