Patna, Jun 22: Veteran politician R S Gavai was sworn in as the governor of Bihar.

Chief Justice of Patna High Court Mr Justice J N Bhatt administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Gavai at a function held in the Raj Bhavan.

Assembly Speaker Udai Narayan Choudhry, State Legislative Council Chairman (In-charge) Prof Arun Kumar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, several cabinet colleagues of Mr Kumar, senior state government officials and other dignitaries attended the ceremony. Leader of the opposition in the state assembly Rabri Devi could not attend the function as she is out of the state.

Earlier, West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi was handed over the aditional charges of Bihar following the resignation of Sardar Buta Singh in January.
