Trinamool MP apologises for 'development for votes' remark

Kolkata, April 29 (IANS): Trinamool Congress MP and Bengali film actress Satabdi Roy tendered an unconditional apology to the Election Commission after it slapped a show cause notice for her speech, poll officials said Tuesday.

The commission had Monday issued notice to Roy following her address at a party rally in West Bengal's Birbhum district where she stated that priority for development will be given to those areas from which she corners the maximum number of votes.

According to Commission officials, in her reply to the notice late Monday night, Roy said whatever she had said was "unintentional" and "never meant to violate the MCC (model code of conduct)."

Roy, who is recontesting from the Birbhum Lok Sabha seat, said at a rally Saturday: "The areas from which we get the maximum number of votes, will witness swifter progress, whereas the areas from which less votes come, will see development later."
