Mangalore, Jun 23: The much-awaited Special Economic Zone project has been sanctioned to Mangalore and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation to the ONGC project here on Friday, June 23.

With these developments the DK unit BJP has stepped forward to have the cake and eat it too.

Claiming credit of bringing SEZ project under NDA government, BJP district spokesperson K Monappa Bhandary, speaking to the press on Wednesday said that the SEZ was announced during the time of Vajpayee-led NDA government.

He further alleged that it was the congress-led UPA government which planned to shift the SEZ to Tamil Nadu and minister for Petroleum Manishankar Iyer trying his best to snatch the entire plan to Tamil Nadu.

Several delegations of MPs by MP D V Sadananda Gowda had pressurized the PM to handover the project to Karnataka, Bhandary explained.

He also condemned the attitude of not inviting all the district elected representatives of the district irrespective of party considerations to the foundation laying ceremony of the project.
