Spot Report by Viju (AF)

Mangalore, Jun 23:
The much-awaited visit from the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh failed to materialize as weather played spoilsport and the Prime Minister had to go back without even landing in city on Friday June 23.

The Prime Minister was slated to lay the foundation stone for the ONGC Petrochemicals Complex at Permude here on Friday June 23.  However owing to overcast conditions he could not land at the airport.   Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy who too was supposed to come, is said to have already reached the airport but he too has not yet come to the spot.

Meanwhile, once Prime Minister's programme was cancelled the chairman of MRPL announced that the inauguration has been postponed as per the instructions of the Prime Minister, but a new date has not been declared.

In the meantime more than 40 BJP leaders and representatives led by MP Sadanand Gowda staged a protest saying that they were not consulted about the postponement before the public announcement. They alleged that even the district in-charge minister Nagraj Shetty was not consulted in the matter.

However, they clarified that they were not against the postponement but against the way the officials have been treating them.

More details are yet awaited.
