Jayalalithaa, Rosaiah condemn twin bomb blast on train


Chennai, May 1 (IANS): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa, Governor K.Rosaiah, and other political leaders Thursday condoled the death of a young woman in the twin bomb blasts on a train.

Strongly condemning the bomb blasts, Jayalalithaa expressed her grief at the death of 22-year-old Swathi and injuries to 14 others.

In a statement issued here, Jayalalithaa said she was grieved on hearing the death of one person and injuries to 14 others in the twin bomb blasts on Bangalore-Guwahati train stationed at Chennai Central Station here.

"I have ordered the police to investigate the crime along with the Railway Police and bring the culprits before the law and punish them," Jayalalithaa said.

She also announced a solatium of Rs.100,000 to the family of the dead, Rs.50,000 to those who suffered serious injuries and Rs.25,000 to other injured people.

She urged the people not to panic as the police were taking sufficient security measures.

In a statement issued here, Rosaiah expressed his deep shock at the bomb blasts.

"I convey my deep felt condolences to the family of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery," he said.

BJP's state president Pon Radhakrishnan told reporters the bomb blasts could be in connection with BJP star Narendra Modi's electioneering in Andhra Pradesh Thursday.

"The train passes through Andhra Pradesh. And the bomb blast has occurred in this train," he said.

The train was scheduled to arrive here at 5.40 a.m. but was late by around an hour and a half. 

MDMK leader Vaiko and PMK founder S.Ramadoss also expressed their shock.
