New Delhi, Jun 23: Sunita Singh (21) withdrew her petition filed in the Supreme Court that had accused the National Commission for Women (NCW) member Yasmin Abrar, members of Parliament Ahmed Patel and Shahid Akhlaq, of sexually exploiting her.

Singh pleaded on Thursday that, “in view of the changed circumstances, the applicant/petitioner does not wish to pursue her aforesaid writ.” Interestingly, Singh has not denied her earlier allegations against Patel and Abrar.

Helpless girls

Singh’s petition had sought protection for ‘young, orphaned and helpless girls and women, lodged in protected homes like Snehalaya, situated in Karkardooma, East Delhi, who are presented for sexual exploitation to cabinet ministers, MPs and other persons of high profile’.

Singh said she was entrapped when she approached the NCW after her husband deserted her for another woman and refused to hand over her child to her.

Yasmin Abrar allegedly took the victim to Jaipur under the pretext of getting her a job, where a person named Ashok sexually assaulted her. Singh also accused Abrar of handing her in the clutches of MP Ahmed Patel who sexually assaulted her twice at Abrar’s house.”

Entrapped

Singh also said MP Shahid Akhlaq from Meerut had sexual assaulted her at Abrar’s Sainik Farms farmhouse on April 6. Abrar had allegedly sent Singh to the farmhouse after telling her that a room had been allotted to her there.

Singh said she escaped to Jammu along with another girl, Rukhsar, only to be arrested by the Delhi Police and charged with kidnapping. Singh says an unknown man had brandished an acid bottle at her and asked her to return to Abrar’s house.
