Bhatkal, May 2: A man committed suicide by jumping from Venkatapur bridge on national highway 66 here on Thursday May 1.
The deceased, identified as Ramesh Sanjiv Achari (58), was a resident of Chitrapur Shirali.
He committed suicide on Thursday at around 3 pm by jumping off the bridge. The people passing by saw him jump and tried to save him by pulling him out of the water, but he was already dead by then.
Sources say that he took the drastic step because he had suffered loss in business. He is survived by two married daughters.
Police sub-inspector L Naik with other constables rushed to the spot.
The body was sent to the Bhatkal government hospital for the post-mortem and will be returned to the family after the procedures are completed.
A case has been registered in the Bhatkal rural police station.
