Dubai, June 24: It was a day of celebration of the unity and exuberance of Fatima Maiecho Suvad (Famad Pernal), U.A.E., as a large number of Pernalites gathered at Almas Hall, Dubai, to celebrate the first get-together of the season, where lots of quality entertainment, food and prizes made up a memorable evening for the parishioners.

The event began at 5.00 PM with prayer by Juliana Mathias.  Dony and Asha, the in-house compering talents well-known to Konkani in this part of the world, took the main role on stage and conducted the entire three-hour event with great flair and flamboyant manner.   They sang a few Konkani songs too to the live music of Kethan D'Souza of Rhythms. It was an event meant for uniting the parishioners.  As such, the entire event went on in a very cordial and informal way, exactly how it was meant to be.  All parishioners were seen to be highly motivated and showed their unity and enthusiasm all through the event.  Around 100 people took part in the programme.

The event was called 'Gili Gili 2006', where very famous magicians from India Moideen and Mohammed Koya displayed a stunning one-hour magic show.  The duo displayed some breathtaking tricks, keeping the entire crowd spellbound.

Some nice traditional food like Potrade, Sheera and Batate Ambade were served with tea and soft drinks.  Rachel and Roger danced to the tune of Bunty and Bubbly.  As usual, Pokri Pernal came up with some hilarious skits, the most enchanting one being the ‘John Barr Beauty Contest’ by six lady-like participants who stole the show with their hot jatkas and matkas and shook the hall.  It was really an innovative comedy show led by Vincy Kombalke.

A discussion session was held to get views and opinions from the members, who took part in an active way. Earlier in the beginning of the programme, a stage event was held and Dinesh welcomed the gathering and called upon members to be much more active and united.  Vincent D’Souza, managing director of VT Travels and a Pernalites was invited chief guest and gave his message to the parishioners.  The guest of honour was Joseph Mathias of Merit Freight Systems, who congratulated the association for their exuberance and excellence.  Jessy Kamath, joint secretary of Famad Pernal propsed vote of thanks. The event ended at 8.00 pm.
