Snapped power line kills two women in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 5 (IANS): Two women were killed Monday in a village in Odisha when they came in contact with a live power line that is believed to have snapped in a storm, police said.

The incident took place in Kukurkuan village in Nabrangpur district, nearly 700 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.

Inspector Tapan Narayan Ratha of Raigarh police told IANS the two women, both aged 35, were walking along a narrow path through a crop field when they accidentally came in contact with power line.

"An 11 KV (11,000 volt) overhead power line that was apparently snapped during a summer storm was lying on the path. The women seemed to have come in contact with it accidentally," he said.
