Bangalore, Jun 26: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday stated that rules have to be amended to keep incumbent Karnataka Lokayuktha Justice N Venkatachala in the post for the second term.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the Basavakalyan Development Board meet at Vidhana Soudha here, the Chief Minister said the Cabinet should decide whether to extend Venkatachala’s term. If it accepts, then the relevant rules will have to be amended, he said.

Justice N Venkatachala’s term will end on July 3 and the rules on appointment of Lokayuktha do not provide for a second term.

However, there have been demonstrations and signature campaigns by various NGOs, associations and organisations, demanding another stint for Venkatachala, who has been an effective crusader against corruption in public life.
