Special offers by Singapore Airlines on its A380 services

New Delhi, May 7 (IANS): In a bid to attract more flyers to its maiden service of Airbus A380 aircraft in India, Singapore Airlines Wednesday announced introductory offers including special fares and bonus frequent flier miles.

"The introduction of A380 services from Mumbai and New Delhi allows us to offer the world's finest air travel experience to Indian travellers," David Lau, general manager-India, Singapore Airlines was quoted in a statement.

The new offers include additional discounts for existing and new fliers on the airline's A380 flight.

Singapore Airlines will become the first to operate the world's largest passenger carrier aircraft to India from May 30, 2014 from New Delhi and Mumbai to Singapore.

The decision comes after the government in January 2014 allowed Airbus A380 to fly into the country.

The civil aviation ministry had lifted the ban imposed in 2008 on the ground that operation of A380s could work against the interest of Indian passenger carriers.

Other major international passenger carriers such as Emirates and Lufthansa have shown interest in operating A380 aircraft in India on various international routes.

At present only four airports - Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore - have the required infrastructure for handling A380 operations.

The super jumbo can accommodate up to 853 passengers in a single-class configuration.
