New Delhi, May 7 (IANS): The ad-hoc body appointed by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to run the affairs of India boxing met here Wednesday and decided to approach the International Boxing Association (AIBA) for two international training and competition programmes ahead of the Asian Games.
The ad-hoc committee, headed by Tarlochan Singh, discussed and finalised the further course of action regarding preparation of the men's and women's teams for the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games 2014. Plans were also drawn up for the Women Asian Championships and Women World Championships which will held in October-November this year.
The meeting was held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium on the sidelines of the trials for core group of women's probables. The members were satisfied with the performance of boxers, including that of former World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist M.C. Mary Kom, who is also part of the trials.
It was also decided that the trials for the men's core probable group for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games 2014 will be conducted at NIS Patiala May 9-12.
The committee held discussions with national coaches and decided to request AIBA to allow and provide the international training programme before the Commonwealth Games.
The women's team will be sent for Asian and the World Championships in all 10 weight categories.
