CBI told to clear dues of counsel, prosecutors

New Delhi, May 7 (IANS): The Delhi High Court Wednesday directed the CBI to clear within two months all outstanding bills of standing counsel, public prosecutors and those who have been appearing in the court for various reasons.

A division bench of Justice Kailash Gambhir and Justice Sunita Gupta also asked the prosecutors and counsel to provide a photocopy of their bills within next week.

"The CBI has to clear all pending or outstanding bills of standing counsel, public prosecutors and those who have been appearing for various matters in the Delhi High Court, within two months," said the bench.

During a hearing, counsel told the court that the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate and the Economic Offence Wing were not clearing outstanding bills of former and current public prosecutors and standing counsel.

The high court has been monitoring the issue of delay in court trials since 2009 due to insufficient public prosecutors and non-payment of fees to them.
