Mechanic rapes daughter, takes her to hospital for abortion

Mumbai, May 8 (Mid-Day): A 33-year-old garage mechanic from Titwala allegedly raped his stepdaughter for several months and got her pregnant. His crime was discovered when he took the girl to a city hospital for an abortion and the matter was referred to the local police, who then transferred it to the Titwala police.

According to the Titwala police, the accused brought his 14-year-old stepdaughter to KEM Hospital in Parel for an abortion. The girl was four months into her pregnancy. Since she is a minor, cops posted at the hospital interrogated the accused. The man lied to them, saying an auto rickshaw driver had raped the child.

PSI Pawar of Titwala police station said, “The police staff posted at the hospital referred the matter to the local police station, and from there the case was transferred to us. Our investigations revealed that the accused had been raping the girl for the last several months.”

The Titwala police registered a case of rape on April 27, along with other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and arrested the man. He was produced in court and is currently in judicial custody. The police said that the survivor’s mother is a domestic help and got married to the accused in 2009 after her first husband died of tuberculosis. The survivor has two sisters – seven and nine years old.

“We have sent the DNA samples to the forensic lab in Kalina and are still awaiting the reports,” added Pawar.
