BJP protests in Varanasi over poll panel's decision on Modi rally

Varanasi, May 8 (IANS): BJP workers Thursday took to roads in Varanasi and protested the Election Commission's decision to deny its prime ministerial hopeful Narendra Modi permission to hold rallies in the city.

The party announced that all scheduled programmes of Modi for the day have been cancelled except for one rally. Modi is expected to address a public meeting in Rohaniya assembly constituency.

The district administration had initially denied permission for all programmes, including a rally at Beniabagh. In a decision late Wednesday, it allowed Modi to hold some of the programmes.

But BJP general secretary Amit Shah said the approval came too late and they had no time to prepare for meetings. Hence, the party had decided to cancel the events.

Modi will arrive at the Babatpur airport in Varanasi by noon Thursday and will be taken to the Rohaniya rally venue in a chopper. He will then drive through the city to go to the party office where he will meet party workers.

Earlier, Modi had tweeted that he was sad as he was not allowed to take part in the Ganga Aarti at Assi Ghat.

The Gujarat chief minister also appealed Bharatiya Janata Party workers to remain calm and maintain discipline.

Senior BJP leaders led by Arun Jaitley, Ananth Kumar, state president Laxmikant Bajpai and Amit Shah will stage a sit-in outside the Banaras Hindu University gate, protesting against the poll panel.

    Dear @Ajay,manglore,
    Namasthey
U seems to be worried about modi 's defeat/win !! but you did not clarify about your stand on these words 'religion or hindu capital' used for his loss or to become PM.
Arrey bhaisab ,what exactly you wanted to say here..
    Kindly elaborate!

This is pathetic by Modi. Just no class. I mean he is saying he is a sure shot to be PM this time. He does not need EC permission to do a personal Arati. But of course this is no Arati he wants to do, he wants to use religion by holding a rally there in the name of Arati.

I sense BJP is worried of him losing to Kejriwal in Varanasi. Varanasi is the Hindu capital of India, if Modi looses Varanasi, he is finished as PM even if BJP wins. I think some of his friends in BJP are working hard for his defeat there.

BJP cries every time like a child if they don't get what they want. They are now scarred of Kejriwal as he is getting more support every day. Even Shankaracharyas are working against Mody. His supporters are asking muslim women to vote for BJP and not to listen to their husbands. Many of the supporters are using Christian names to comment. Actions of desperate people.

The Poster-Boy Mr. Modi is not aware of how to run the country.

In the elections of Gujarat, the election officials were directed by the government to act on behalf of bjp and nobody was complaining and if complained encounters. Modi made compulsory voting in Gujarat If not voting to bjp encounters.

Here Mr. Amit Shah cannot make encounters. That is why here in Varanasi they are protesting against election commission’s ruling/decision.

Election commission should direct U.P. state’s secretary to file one FIR against BJP and Modi. Frustration of Modi, BJP and its P.R.O’s in Varanasi is very well visible.

BJP always has a plan and a strategy. This is undeniable. This current plan is simply created a safe exit route to Modi back to Guj, in case he fails to get numbers. Modi can not blame it on voters for not giving sufficient numbers, nor congress or any other parties. Should he does so, people will think what a looser he is. Therefore, he need to blame it on someone beyond political parties. The best option is election commission, where that sounds credible to his own supporters. It is dangerous to take on dismayed supporters, he knows it well. This Modi and BJP drama is simply therefore, an well planed exit strategy, if things do not turn up the way they wanted.

    1) Yesterday Varanasi DM accepted 4 out of 5 demands of BJP which includes Ganga aarti.
Still shamefully Modi is using Gangaji's name for political gain but not interested in performing Ganga aarti and today canceled it.
‪#‎BJPDrama‬. Hai Modi tera ye chunavi emotional atyachaar...
P.S. - One do not need EC/DM permissions to perform Ganga Aarti unless you want to do political activity there. Modi can go there with his security guards and perform Aarti but if he wants to go there with hundreds of paid workers then obviously he will be needing permission. Obviously Modi's intention is not Aarti but just political drama on the name of Ganga Aarti.
    2) Regarding permission for Beniyabag ground rally: That ground is having a capacity of around 30 thousands people But BJP wanted to get permission for 1 Lakh people.
Also in 1991 BJP did a large rally in this same ground which resulted in Riots, the entire city went under curfew and many people died due to that. This could also be the reason EC didn't give permission for bringing 1 lakh workers in a ground having capacity of only 30 thousands.
    3) As only 2 days left for Varanasi and BJP is lagging behind in Varanasi, BJP is doing this drama to gain cheap publicity and possibly trying a Riot to divide common men into Hindu Muslim and gain votes.
#BJPDrama... Cheap publicity... Planning a riot???
