Chinese police to patrol in Paris to help tourists

Beijing, May 8 (IANS): Chinese police are likely to assist their counterparts in France on patrols following recent attacks targeting Chinese tourists in Paris, China's ministry of public security said.

"We are in discussions with the French interior ministry and will release more details about the arrangement later," China Daily quoted a senior officer from the ministry's international cooperation bureau as saying.

This is the first time that Chinese police will appear on streets abroad to help local officers combat crimes against Chinese tourists, the report said.

The country is likely to deploy eight to 10 officers who are proficient in the French language. They will conduct joint patrols with their French counterparts and help in communicating with Chinese tourists who need assistance.
