Udupi, Jun 27:  Ranjith Pinto, an alleged rowdy in the Kallianpur-Santhekatte area near here was on Monday June 26 night assaulted by some persons as a result of which the former sustained serious injuries.

He has now been admitted to hospital and is under treatment.  He has filed a case with the police against Shrikant Bailakere, Latish Kadbettu, Vinod Santhekatte, Praveen Bailakere and Suresh Bailakere for assaulting him.  The initial police investigation revealed that old rivalry between the accused and Ranjith as the reason behind the assault.

Ranjith has been infamous in the area for his rowdy acts.  On Monday night, a group of 10 persons tried to murder Ranjith near the UTI Bank ATM at Santhekatte.  They attacked Ranjith with wooden clubs and sabres.  Ranjith was injured seriously in the assaulted and was admitted to hospital.

Meanwhile, some reports said that Bailakere Shrikant, one of the accused has been arrested by the police.  However, the police have not yet confirmed the arrest of anyone in this regard.
