Mangalore, Jun 28: Mangalore City Auto-rickshaw Drivers Association has demanded the government to increase the current rickshaw fare following a hike in fuel charges.
Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday June 27, association president Ivan D'Souza demanded the government to increase the minimum fare to Rs 13 from the existing Rs 10. He also demanded to increase the per kilometre charges to Rs 8.00 from the existing Rs 6.50.
He further said that though the petrol and diesel charges have been hiked nearly 8 times in the last couple of years, rickshaw fare has not been hiked. "However now it is quite impossible to carry on with the same fare. Not only the fuel prices have increased but insurance charges, cost of the spare parts too has gone up. So it is very necessary that government gives a heed to out request," he said.
