Mumbai, Jun 28: Disappointed with her SSC results, Rajlakshmi Muthu (17) committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her home in Indira Nagar, Mulund.
Rajlakshmi, who wanted to pursue science, was unhappy with the 52 per cent marks she obtained. A student of Vanividya High School, Mulund, the teenager took the drastic step yesterday afternoon. According to neighbours, Rajlakshmi was a hardworking student.
"She had prepared herself well. She was expecting good marks," said a neighbour. "Her mother was at my place. Her younger brother came running for help. He even tried to save his sister, but it was too late," said another neighbour.
Ex-students of National Resource Centre for Inclusion – The Spastics Society of India have performed well in SSC and HSC. Urvi Pithadia of Guru Harkishen Academy, topped her school with 86 per cent in SSC.
In HSC, Karan Dingreja and Ashok Gupta of MMK College secured 66.33 per cent and 64.5 per cent in commerce, while Toshan Chatterjee from humanities stream of St Xavier's College secured 66 per cent.
