Puttur, Jun 29: The compound wall of CAMPCO factory in the city here collapsed on Wednesday June 28 afternoon, damaging a vehicle parking area and several vehicles.

CAMPCO had built its compound wall several years ago.  It was only a few years ago that one of the neighbouring houses had erected their compound wall over the CAMPCO wall.  They had taken necessary permission for this from CAMPCO.

But incessant rains in the last few days might have weakened the compound wall.  Moreover, the old CAMPCO wall had to bear the extra weight another compound wall of the neighbouring house.  On Wednesday afternoon however, the wall gave in and collapsed around 1.30.

As a result, the entire wall fell on the adjacent vehicle shed in which several two-wheeler of CAMPCO employees were parked.  It is said that more than 30 two-wheelers and 8 cars have been damaged in the incident.  Right now the total loss has been estimated at Rs 35 lac.

The nearby electric poles to collapsed and fell on the vehicle shed.  However, immediate intervention by police and fire brigade squad prevented further damage.  A complaint has been filed in the Puttur town police station in this regard.
